  •  I worked for a company (7+ / 0-)

who played a nasty game with overtime.

You could not get overtime pay unless you worked 40 hours a week.  But a week with a legal holiday did not count, because you hadn't actually 'worked 40 hours'.  So they would schedule you for Saturday work in those weeks - you got paid for the Saturday. but only straight time, because you were 8 hours short of your 40 hour week.  If they did schedule you in a full week, they pushed you to take comp time instead.

Of course, this is the same company that once held a department meeting to tell us that the other departments didn't like us and then required that each of us 'say something nice about our jobs'.  I said, "It pays the bills."  I quit a couple months later.

That was nearly 20 years ago.  A friend who kept working there was let go after 25 years, 2 weeks after being told her job was secure.  Then they told her she had to work for another month to collect her severance pay.  She is a better person than I and she actually did her job for the next 30 days.  I would have spent that time doing everything I could to sabotage the company and spent the rest of the time drinking coffee and saying, "Sorry, I haven't had time to get to that."
