    Ptolemy's work was science in it's day.  He made observations and drew conclusions from those observations.  The fact that he was incorrect or that he started with an assumption and worked towards a justification that fit does not make Astronomy less of a science.  It means that he was just doing it wrong.

    Global economics is reality.  It happens just like gravity.  If it happens and can be observed then the scientific method can be used to analyze how it works and why.

    Politics and greed may be used to obfuscate that research and interfere with conclusions they do not like (Like the Catholic Church and Galileo) but that does not mean that it is not science.
