    she is actually wrong because for one thing people who are put under restraining orders are usually restricted because of some sort of bodily threat that they have made towards other people.

    Another point on which Hickenlooper is correct - at least according to my father who was a criminal defense attorney - criminals are really pretty stupid.

    Finally, while the effects of a background check program will probably take a number of years to really start to show, there is no doubt in my mind that as the many, many firearms and their transfers between owners in this country start to be subjected to a background check, the number of available weapons for criminal use will decrease.  It will take time, but it will shrink the available pool of firearms from which criminals can liberally draw from right now.
