They don't have a unified message for America...they have talking points for the specific audience.  Hardly a unifying message.

Look at Kos' diary reponse with regards to the environment.

No money there.......no matter how important it might be.  Tree's don't vote.  Gays do.  So we get gay diaries.  And pootie diaries.

Is the environment going off a cliff?  Yes, it is.  Will that affect us all?  Yes it will.

Do environmentalists constitute a solid voting bloc?  No they do not, at least not these days.

The cynicism runs deep.  Are there environmental issues that are more dangerous, and more threatening to the future of humanity than the inability of two people of the same sex to marry?  Yes, there are.

But not here.  Not now.  Not ever.

There is no environmental constituency here.  But there is a huge queer constituency here.

That's why there's no front pager doing environmental work.

But that doesn't explain why this site doesn't give it as much attention as it does slut shaming or bullying.   There must be another explanation for that.

    •  I feel your pain (7+ / 0-)

I really do. I have felt the feeling of people not having the same priorities that I do. Not that my priorities aren't on their list somewhere. Just that my top priority doesn't always seem to be the same as theirs.

Best antidote I can suggest is to look not just at differences, but also at similarities. For example, how are gay rights similar to environmental consciousness. There are many ways to answer that, here's one: can a person care about the well-being of someone or something other than him/herself. Can a person see that his/her well-being literally depends on the well-being of others, and of a whole system that requires diversity in order to thrive. Can one see that mindless repression of gays is not different in kind than mindless exploitation of the environment.

Once we care about the well-being of LGBT persons, we are set to also care about the environment. But if we don't care about the former, we are not likely to do a good job with the latter either.

      •  that sounds very good (0+ / 0-)

but there's no logical consistency there.

LGBT issues have not a thing to do with environmentalism, and the regular suspects here who write diary after diary after diary after diary on solely LGBT issues are one issue people.

It's not really a gateway to a broader appreciation of the universe.

stinks to high heaven to me.  Where the hell do you get off criticizing those who make it a priority to attain their full civil rights? It's taken and going to continue to take that kind of focus and strength to achieve full LBGT rights. Thank God for those who fight for it every day in every way they can.

Furthermore, How do you know what other issues they believe in and fight for and vote for and donate to and pray for and discuss with their family and friends?

No one can take on every important issue, but I celebrate anyone who takes on one and fights like hell for it. And guess what? People get to choose their priorities without silly zen master crap like this:

It's not really a gateway to a broader appreciation of the universe.

        •  Really? (0+ / 0-)

Want to know one of the best ways to make people hard-core envionmentalists? Put them in wild places. Want to raise kids who care and will work to protect the environment?

          Make them Scouts.

Huh. Look at that: environmental issues are affected by LGBT concerns.

Eagle Scouts, in particular, tend to go on to be business, political and community leaders. Who do we need as stakeholders in environmental actions to guarantee success?

Just because you fail to see a connection doesn't mean there isn't one.

    •  So why don't you become the voice of... (5+ / 0-)

The Environment.  Sometimes, I am sick of people complaining...waiting for someone else to do the work!
