  •  Age at first flight -- I was an infant, maybe (19+ / 0-)

a few months old.  My grandpa flew me to his house to take care of me until I was about 3.  He flew me back to my parents, and back and forth several times until I was school aged, and then every summer until he could no longer do so.  There was one horrible trip back to his house because my grandmother had died -- I had just turned 5.  Every flight after that, until I was a bit older than old enough to know better, I'd search for her in the clouds outside the plane window.

Air travel has a sense of freedom for me, too, Navajo, even though now it is a complete pain in the rear.  It was definitely life changing in a way I will be forever grateful for.  I don't think my grandparents could have driven nearly as easily and willingly to Cleveland and then to SLC from Illinois.  Without air travel to give me my grandparents' loving influence, I'd be a completely different, and certainly worse person.
