    was from the newly opened Dulles Airport. My brother and I were going to see my aunt in Texas. My grandmother, who had never flown before, insisted on accompanying us even though she was scared to death.

    In those days, people dressed up in their Sunday best to travel. I can see my black patent leather shoes now. Dulles was unusual for the time as you had to ride a shuttle to get to the airplane.

    You are right. It was a different experience back then. Oh, and after Grandma's first flight, she always flew there after.
