    Unfortunately, they have tremendous influence.  Sure, they lost some Senate seats, but right now they are controlling the agenda.  They can require 60 votes in the Senate and Reid can't (won't) do anything about it.  They managed to keep Bush tax cuts for those making up to $400k.  They defeated a watered down bill for background checks.  They are winning on the sequestration and austerity.  They got Obama to sign on to chained CPI.

    Sure, the Democrats have a majority in the Senate and have a Democrat in the White House, but yet they seem impotent.  So yeah, I'd say the tea party - unfortunately - has influence.

    (I realize my reply is a few hours late, but I just began reading this diary this evening.)
