defending their villages because they're terrified of what's going to happen if the Christian or Alawite neighbors who were raided in the past get a chance to take revenge.

This is the bulk, numerically, of the "rebel forces".  They will not deploy away from their homes.  Most of them continue to fight primarily out of fear reprisal.

Which is not to say, of course, that those fears aren't justified and reasonable.

    "Paid Activist" is an oxymoron.

Why in the name of the FSM are we even entertaining the idea of getting involved in what will surely be another shitstorm of biblical proportions for people we don't even like?

As long as the fighting stays inside Syria, I think the administration is mostly content to do nothing.

The clashes across the borders and the involvement of Hezbollah are probably why there's any interest at all.

"honor".   We said we'd do something if the conflict reached a certain level and now we have no choice but to intervene or people will look at us funny.

Of course the people making such claims are full of shit, but that won't stop them from making that excuse.

You may think that. I couldn't possibly comment.-- Francis Urqhart
