  •  It is the media who focused on the airport delays (12+ / 0-)

in the first place!  They had much more coverage of this part of the sequester than they did on the head start cuts, Meals on Wheels, military scholarships, etc.

So it is not surprising to me in the least.  They are in on it.

As a matter of fact, it was a foregone conclusion that this is how it would play out.  Right after the sequester went into effect, they decried President Obama as Chicken Little because he tried to warn the public of the harmful effects of the sequester.  They said -- way back then -- that the only way we would see movement on the sequester was when/if airport delays started.  So, they had a plan all along.

but all of the facts in this matter need to be considered.

The sequester was designed by this White House in order to cause maximum pain, which they thought would pressure Democrats into cutting Social Security and Medicare and at the same time force Republicans to cough up some more revenue.

This is happening by design. That is an undisputed fact and should be taken into consideration in all discussions about the sequester.

This email was written by Gene Sperling, speaking for the administration:

But I do truly believe you should rethink your comment about saying saying that Potus asking for revenues is moving the goal post. I know you may not believe this, but as a friend, I think you will regret staking out that claim. The idea that the sequester was to force both sides to go back to try at a big or grand barain with a mix of entitlements and revenues (even if there were serious disagreements on composition) was part of the DNA of the thing from the start. It was an accepted part of the understanding — from the start. Really. It was assumed by the Rs on the Supercommittee that came right after: it was assumed in the November-December 2012 negotiations. There may have been big disagreements over rates and ratios — but that it was supposed to be replaced by entitlements and revenues of some form is not controversial. (Indeed, the discretionary savings amount from the Boehner-Obama negotiations were locked in in BCA: the sequester was just designed to force all back to table on entitlements and revenues.)
