  •  When I was a recent graduate of Navy (8+ / 0-)

    aviation electronic maintenance school, I was told, never grab hold of a pitot tube.  I did one day, and sure found out why.  It is heated (really heated) to keep it from icing up, and I nearly had the skin of my hand fully stuck to the damn thing.  I mean it was REALLY hot.  I never grabbed another one.

      For applying power to the aircraft...
      When they see the pitot tube cover burning off it's a dead give away you didn't do the checklist...

      One of the reasons anyway...
