    it's so good to find out that the little girl in that picture--
    which filled us with so much sadness and horror at the time-
    is well, and has a good life.

    It's amazing how some pictures can be instantly conjured up
    in the mind's eye;  this one, and the Afghani Girl--
    the one with the amazing sea-green eyes--
    even if i haven't seen them in years, i can picture them
    as clearly as if the photo was right in front of me.

    I was so glad that NatGeo did the follow-up and found her
    a while back.

      has been able to find happiness and raise a family.  And as it is common for many who have had to overcome such tragedy and difficulty, it was not all surprising that she began a foundation and has been such a strong voice for the children of war.  Her scars, outward and inward, have become for her marks of beauty.
