    and I've often thought about how he must have mulled it all over before writing and delivering this speech. Still wondering what his first thoughts were when he was asked to host the WHCD...

    Consequently, I can't help but think that he must've decided that it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Even rarer than that, actually. And to simply do the style of comedy that he ordinarily does would have been courageous enough--to be sure--but to amp it up even more? (Rather than tone it down a bit, as most comedians in his place probably always do, to some extent.) Well, it was nothing short of awesome. In the literal sense of the term.

    Indeed, much as I really love John Stewart, for example, I actually really doubt whether he--or ANY other political comedian working today--would have gone all-out the way Colbert did. Just speculating, of course, but I'm REALLY REALLY glad he did!
