Some people will disregard this because he's not a super star and all, but I say BS to that.

This takes major courage for an active player to come out.  There's been stories of several major league players coming out after retiring (John Amechi of the NBA is one of them), but to be an active player? That's significant.

Especially when only a few years ago you have ex-player Tim Hardaway going bonkers about gay players, calling them slurs of all types in a bizarre and bigoted interview in his doorway.

    I have already done so.

It is done. Four More Years.

He's reasonably old and his season is over.  I'll believe he is an active player when he actually plays a game next season.  I wish him the best.

      •  Wow, he's "rather old"? At 34? Really? (6+ / 0-)

Just because he is not a superstar in his early 20's does not take away from his historic action. Until he retires he is an active player just like the vast majority of players who are not on a remaining playoff team.

If for some reason that "Twin" as he was called in Atlanta does not make a team next season, that still doesn't take away from what he has done.

As to why he came out now rather than during the season? It is because he wanted the weight of his action to fall on him and not his teammates. If he comes out in the middle of the season, his announcement becomes a distraction even if his teammates support him. They would have to answer the same questions in every city they play, over and over again. If he plays next season,he will have answered many questions from the media and his teammates can just tweet their support without it becoming a media circus.

This is why there is a push for a group of active NFL players (who are also in their offseason), to come out together) so all the media attention doesn't fall on one player and his team.

Let's give some credit to "Twin" for doing this in a way that he cannot be seen as doing it for "selfish" reasons.

The politicians may be bought, and the system corrupt, but it is our duty to fix these things.

He's active in his own mind.  He clearly hopes to play next season, and did this anyway.
