in my time on the planet and they are not UNrepresentative  either.

Because the problem isn't the people, i.e. the men or the players or the fans, its the culture of football as it gets practiced in this country.

So while football didn't molest those kids or rape that girl, the culture of football in Steubenville OH (and many many places LIKE Steubenville, OH -- including college campuses, DID in fact do a lot to cover up who did molest those kids or rape that girl and DID in fact do a great deal to try and pretend that BECAUSE they were connected to FOOTBALL and more imporantly because they were connected to a WINNING FOOTBALL program, what they did was worth the effort of trivializing, covering up or even protection for those who did do it.

So, I don't see it as crap and the culture of football, including folks like you who don't want the sport to be "tainted" does play into this.

At UC-fuckng-LA they caught football players RED-HANDED using handicapped placards to park in handicapped stalls on campus and all they got was a slap on the wrist.  These kids have been told their whole lives that their shit doesn't stink.

Back when I was in high school (before the flood) the football program was running a deficit for the year.  Our music director (who had been a jock at the same high school back in the day) went before the varsity boosters and told them that if we sold out the annual Spring Musical we would wipe out their debt, and the answer was a huge yawn.  Mind you, the lead actor and several in the chorus and pit orchestra were lettermen.

The culture of football is a cancer on American higher education--it's the tail that wags the dog.

    •  "Folks like you". Wow. (0+ / 0-)

There are no words to describe how utterly, disgustingly unfair and offensive your comment is to me at a personal level that are allowed on this forum. So I'm going to skip that.

Go ahead and insinuate that I encourage children to grow up to be criminals and commit horrible acts if that helps youo justify your pathological hatred of "jocks" or whatever it is that drives you to be so lacking in basic decency. You don't know me or anything I've done in my life but people get raped because of...

folks like you who don't want the sport to be "tainted" does play into this.
Again, an honest response to this statement would be considered trollish so I won't respond. I'm just going to stand back and say wow.

I will note that you completely ignored my question... what if the teaching profession were demonized in the same way you demonize those involved in athletics? How would that go over? And what about the FACT that kids who participate in sports are less likely to get into trouble than those who don't? Care to address that? That was a central argument in getting Title IX passed, that sports is good for kids so girls should be encouraged to participate. So was Title IX a bad idea? I mean you don't want these kids around awful people like me, right?

You don't respond because you can't. You are just an angry miserable resentful little punk who wants to take a cheap shot at an entire class of people that you don't identify or like. And I'm being dishonest here, because that's not what I really think of you. I'm not supposed to say what I really think of you.

You can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America.
