    so I'll say again, it isn't like I was recruiting Brian Schweitzer or Stephanie Herseth Sandlin. Wherever I assumed a stronger candidate I tried to provide justification and it was usually someone who looked at the race for a while but ultimately didn't pull the trigger, like Mike McMahon.

    And yes, Gary Herbert would have crushed Matheson I'd imagine. Republicans definitely cost themselves that seat with the line drawing.

      Where strong candidates decide for some reason or another not to run. This is a completely normal and unfortunately often unavoidable situation, and I think if you second guess it on one side, you need to second guess it on other.
