  •  Well, not entirely (9+ / 0-)

I grew up in Texas.  Waco.  I also have traveled in various parts of the US.  There are small town parts of the US that are sort of similar.  Arizona comes to mind.  Some parts of rural Pennsylvania.

But there is a reason that Karl Rove chose Texas to operate in and it was where he perfected the East Texas Strategy, that propelled Bush into the Governor's mansion and then the White House.

The Houston Ship Channel interests are so heavily anti-regulatory that they don't mind giving huge chunks of money to corrupt a bunch of backwoods evangelicals and get them wound up about getting Democrats out of office.

These are the original voters who vote against their own interests and due it with extreme zealousness.

In a lawsuit concerning Planned Parenthood in the late eighties and early nineties, far right wing evangelicals actually asserted that they should have the right to punish their daughters, even to the point of kill them if they were found to have gone to seek advice on birth control or abortion.

Texas is a bit different.  One reason I no longer live there.

hope that the idiots who have no constructive and creative solutions but only look to tear down will not win the day.

    •  Didn't Barney Frank get yelled at (0+ / 0-)

for observing some significant Venn-diagram overlap between fundamentalist Christians and Muslims?

Maybe Rick Perry needs to pay it forward with that apology demand.

    •  Sounds like (0+ / 0-)

Afghanistan to me. Or Saudi Arabia. Or maybe Iran.

Wait, I think they're a little more tolerant in Iran. Definitely better educated about how US govt works.
