  •   I don't like that Ayotte was speaking for Erica, (8+ / 0-)
“As you and I both know the issue wasn’t [because of the] background check system,” said Ayotte, who had personally met with Lafferty before the high-profile gun-control votes earlier this month. “The issue was mental health … because that seems to be the overriding issue of all of this.”
Ayotte is not a mental health clinician and therefore doesn't get to decide if it was mental health or if it was background checks. Of course Lanza should never have had access to his mom's guns but scapegoating mental health makes it less likely gun control will pass.

... of a gun violence victim, is a hurtful and patronizing thing to say.

Sen. Ayotte, as we all know, "the issue" is to take every reasonable step to stem the profusion of dangerous weapons and enact every means possible to keep them out of the hands of those who are likely to do violence with them. The Senate gun bill and many of those amendments did that, while preserving Second Amendment rights.

What we know is that you cravenly voted against the public interest, several times, and seem predisposed to do it again.

With respect, keep to the subject and answer the questions you'll be getting all the way through your next re-election campaign ... or until you change your votes to reflect your constituents' interests.

2014 IS COMING. Build up the Senate. Win back the House : 17 seats. Plus!
