there was an actually competitive GOP primary. Encouraing sign, but as you say, Markey cant get complacent.

    •  This number is overperforming Obama's % (1+ / 0-)

      by a decent margin.

It seems that finally the union people get energized by having a own candidate in the race.

I hope many of them can vote later for Markey in the general.

However is that unlike Jan 2010, we don't have a big issue driving out Republicans to the polls. In Jan 2010, this Senate race would decide the crucial healthcare reform bill.

    •  I'm not worried (0+ / 0-)

Honestly, I think a lot of people just don't understand how much of a perfect storm was required for Scott Brown to win in 2010, it wasn't just that Coakley ran a poor campaign, there was general discontent with Democrats that simply doesn't exist right now.

Gomez isn't even a particularly strong candidate, for all this talk about him being Hispanic and a Navy SEAL, he's never held any kind of elective office (Scott Brown, at least, was a state senator who was genuinely trying to run for governor at one point, so appealing to the broader electorate was always a given for him).

Markey's going to be the next senator from Massachusetts (outside of the dead girl/live boy type scenario).
