And since he's a public figure, I guess there's no legal action he can take against the company.

That said, the billboards (others planned for the contested district) make me uncomfortable, for his children's sake. Yes, I know he's the one who created the mess that is his life, so please don't lecture on that. And yes, I know that he is the most amazingly obtuse, tone-deaf, egotistical, self-serving person to ever run (again) for political office.

But even though I laughed at the billboard at first, it was a laugh combined with a small gasp. Although it targets Sanford, the collateral damage is to his children.

Imagine being Jenny Sanford and having to discuss this with the sons.

    •  Quite true re: the children. (0+ / 0-)

Still, I gotta think that the press coverage of his hike on the Appalachian trail was likely far more traumatic for them than this minor ridicule.  By now, they already know who he is and what he's done.

I'll confess that it makes me squirm uncomfortably a bit too, but Sanford has been a public figure for most of his children's lives.  Having people say bad things about him can't be something new for them.

        ;)

And yes, the not-really-the-AT bombshell would have been terribly painful.

The other squirm-worthy part I meant to mention is that their divorce proceedings were to have remained sealed. Somehow they didn't.
