There’s pretty widespread agreement, on both sides of the aisle, that the health-care law will expand insurance coverage. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that 30 million more Americans will have health insurance by the end of a decade.

.....failed. Got nothing done, however inadequate and compromised.

You somehow didn't notice how difficult it was to get even the present legislation passed? Single payer would have been much better, in an ideal world, but in the real political world of the modern United States, it had about as much chance of being passed as a law giving everyone free tickets to a vacation on Mars.

      •  And we could have worked on the issues (0+ / 0-)

voters actually saw as urgent, like employment and minimum wage.

And we wouldn't have handed the house to the GOP for a decade.

        •  NO!!!!! (5+ / 0-)

This comment is completely wrong.  I assure you that plenty of voters, myself included, saw health care THE urgent issue, topping jobs, minimum wage, and ALL other potential Democratic priorities.

The health care system HAD TO BE FIXED.

Plus, losing the house for ten years heavily involved the redistricting from the last census election (at least in Texas.  I know there is talk of Texas going blue, but I hold no hope that I will see it occur in my lifetime.  And yes, I vote for Democrats every single election.  Sigh.)

But I digress.  This NEEDED to get done.  This WAS an urgent issue, and many, many, many, MANY voters saw it this way.  President Obama was 100% correct to put health care at the top of the list.

has been urgent for me since 1985.  I am happy as heck to see a step in the right direction and I relish the fight it took and will take to move it even further.

and you'll certainly never put the abusers on notice or educate the public if you don't try.
