    I just read a study using 4 and 6 year olds. They were able to distinguish something being real from being imaginary, or at least to clearly state the difference. However, then the researchers asked the kids to imagine a creature inside a wooden box they were shown. After that, the kids wanted to open the box to see what was in it, because they weren't sure if the creature might really be inside or not. Once they had imagined it, they thought maybe it really was in there.

    They just aren't all the way there yet in figuring those things out.
