So far. For your sake I hope that continues but why would you want to take that kind of risk? What makes it worth it to you?

duh. What if the black helicopters or the black people come when the kids are home alone.

    •  what risk? my kids had no access to any gun unless (0+ / 0-)

I was within a foot of them and they were on the firing line.

They were started on single shot rifles so there is no chance of taking a shot then losing concentration and doing something stupid.

They also didn't have toy guns as guns aren't toys. They learned the basic safety rules before they ever touched a rifle and They were under the closest possible supervision while shooting.

This is how the great majority of kids were raised until just very recently, and usually by 10 or 12 the boys had their own 22 or shotgun and were allowed full access. Mine had his own but he didn't get it inhis space until 18 then it was his to do as he will....

With the good early training, none of mine have ever even done the basic stupid shit let alone shooting things besides targets.....including critters, I am not a hunter and they never felt the need/urge at least that I know.

      •  Right (0+ / 0-)

I mean, obviously no kid has ever done anything a parent told them not or wished they didn't do. Good call on making sure that if you were ever disobeyed the consequences would have the best chance to be permanent.

Owning guns is a tremendous risk for the household.

        •  it's called a locking case with one key, mine (0+ / 0-)

my kids were raised with multiple guns in the iouse never a problem.

          Trust but verify...

          •  Wow. (0+ / 0-)

A locking case? With a key you say?

That's a pretty high tech and foolproof plan you got there, sparky. No one has ever lost a key before, and surely a lock can not be picked or broken! Phew!

Glad you haven't had a problem. Yet.
