  •  At this point what good would charges do? (0+ / 0-)

I hate this and these days I hate guns. But prosecuting them doesn't really do any good. The horse has already left the barn.

Actually charging may just hurt. Now everyone else instead of reflecting on this incident and maybe deciding they should get rid of their guns or at least change how they handle and store them can just tell themselves it was because someone was a criminal. But not me, I'm not a criminal like that guy so it's alright if I leave my guns laying about.

They've paid the steepest price they can pay already for this and I would suspect have learned their lesson. Let them grieve. The prisons are full enough.

Charges against the parents could help with the guilt the boy might feel and get him into foster care faster. He is NOT safe in that home. It easily could have been himself that he killed.

I don't care that much about punishing the parents further, but I care a lot about the surviving victim and I want him to have the best care he can get.

      •  Given all the stories I've read about foster care (0+ / 0-)

over the years it seems like russian roulette to me. Frankly I think the surviving child is still better of with his own parents who have now learned the lesson in the most harsh way imaginable rather than throwing him into the foster care system.

It's easy to propose that and imagine him in a foster home with someone like Nancy Pelosi as his foster mother. The realities of the foster care system are another matter entirely.

      out of their irresponsible hands.

      •  I guess if you can get . . . (0+ / 0-)

felony convictions without jail time, otherwise what happens to him? I'm sure he'll just love going to prison to see his mom and/or dad. And good luck to his parents getting work and supporting him after they have a felony conviction. I just see a prosecution as making a horrible situation worse. I guess it might make some people feel better about all this, like they are doing something, but I don't think it does any good.
