  •  I've never read about the Walton Family, (8+ / 0-)

as a group or each one individually.  I know WalMart was started by a Walton, but other than that I'm clueless about who they are.  However, they sure do seem stingy.  I mean how many billions do you need?  You certainly can't take it with you.  A little thrown in for workers' safety?  Is that really too much to ask?

The GOP will try to destroy anyone who doesn't think like them or anything they can't own. Time to stop this childish crap.

    •  Sam Walton (4+ / 0-)

used to promote "Made in the USA." He came of age during the Great Depression and worked as  stock boy at a Sterling store (five & dime). I know that, because my dad was his co-worker. Both later had their own dime stores.

His wife, on the other hand, had oil & gas money from Oklahoma, so marrying her gave him a chance to go big (small profits on small sales from dime stores, higher profits on "big box). First was called "Hypermart" and was in Houston, which may have something to do with why they first built Wal-Mart stores in small towns, destroying town squares and, in the process, communities.

Mrs. Walton gave a lot of money to my little Presbyterian alma mater, but insisted it be called "university" -- with 600 students!! Aaargh!

The fact that Wal-Mart is a public corporation now at least in part explains the penny-pinching, though it also has been true of other rich people I've known. (I don't get it either.)
