    As someone from the upper Midwest, I thought KS, OK and TX were in the south. I'm probably geographically challenged, but I'm pretty sure that most of my neighbors think so too.  Maybe this contributes to the problem--that we can be somewhat ignorant and misinformed. (And I mean me, not you, btw)

      but KS is usually considered part of the Midwest when they break down data into these east/south/midwest and west.

      I have a eastern seaboard mentality about it all(born and raised in Philly), and think of the south stopping at the Mississippi, but yes, Texas is definitely the south (and we've had great Democrats come from that state).
