  •  Bonnie and I met in third grade in 1963 ... (4+ / 0-)

    ... and she took an immediate dislike to me because I sang "My Bonnie lies over the ocean" in honor of the middy blouse she was wearing.  She thought I was making fun of her, and I thought she was a stick-in-the-mud.

    It didn't take long to get over our initial misconceptions, and even though there is a thirteen-month difference in our ages (having started life in different towns and  different school systems with different cut-off dates) we quickly became fast friends and stayed that way.

    We've shared many joys and sorrows, from weddings to funerals, from childbirth to cancer to organ transplants, and this August we will celebrate the fiftieth year of our friendship.

    I am so lucky and grateful we were both in Mrs. Schweitzer's class at Lake Drive School.
