  •  I don't think progressives get this (7+ / 0-)

I grew up in Texas, in Waco and have watched as the right wing evangelicals became mobilized, beginning around the mid 1960s.  This began to have a political impact by 1980 as a direct result of .... the discovery of the Gospel of Money.

It should not be a mystery, but since the rational capacity of the rather uneducated evangelical base is just so hard to get one's mine around if you are looking for logic, it seems to continually elicit face palm moments.

This all got started because the Houston Ship Channel interests outside of Houston were getting pressed by Democrats who had become champions of environmental cleanup and were enacting regulations against pollution.

They were willing to spend all kinds of money to get regulation off their back. There is a reason that Jesus became solidly against regulation.  It is the same reason that many of these formerly dirt poor preachers now live in very large homes.

It shouldn't be so hard to put that together.  There are millions and millions of dollars behind using churches as a base of organizing for the agenda of people like the Koch brothers and all those others whose names aren't so famous, but who are putting lots of money into the same agenda.

Everyone ought to do a Google search for churches in their area that are doing political workshops.  A lot of times these are very public, but people not interested in attending those churches don't usually see them.

hope that the idiots who have no constructive and creative solutions but only look to tear down will not win the day.

wants to blame vaccinations for causing widespread autism, based on a very small, deeply flawed study that has been 100% debunked.  But heaven forbid we start looking at things like pesticides or other toxins in our air/water/food as possible root causes.
