  •  This was not peaceful... (6+ / 0-)

All day was peaceful in Seattle. It did not get ugly until a few hundred people decided to take an unscheduled walk. Most of the day the police just stood around and watched the activity...no issues.

I don't understand the need to destroy private property and to become violent. Those shop keepers are just trying to make a living and now they have the expense an hassle of fixing up their business.

And to what purpose? What was the point of that demonstration?

It didn't get ugly until one of those few hundred people decided to smash the window on a liquor store.  Until that point the police were just following the "unpermitted march" and giving out the location (including tweets) so that uninvolved people could stay uninvolved.  Even at that point, they only engaged with those committing violence and those trying to keep the police from getting to those smashing things up.  There was plenty of time for any of those who were with the unpermitted march to see where things were going and leave.  The ugly really only came down when the marchers started throwing things at the police resulting in injuries.

I have strong doubts this was just an unplanned spontaneous march and violence.  The police had gotten reports earlier in the day from people who had called in to report they'd seen people caching rocks (the police simply cleared away reported caches).  They wanted to provoke the police and had to resort to violence against property and people to get it.
