societal pressures, entering in to a relationship under false pretenses is an asshole move, it just is.  Collins probably isn't an asshole in his daily life but what he did was certainly characteristic of one.

So many people in this world not only come out of the closet, a good number of them kick down the door in the process and live their lives "out" from a very young age.  Far more brave is the person who comes out but does not have an army of fans in the wings waiting to come to his/her rescue when they have to deal with potentially far more harsh consequences than what Jason will ever have to deal with.

As a professional athlete the risk of him coming out is merely financial.  He's in a safe environment, working in an industry that is under the microscope and as you can see here, were he to be ostracized by his colleagues, there would be a large and vocal community prepared to back him up.

I certainly made a mistake in calling him an asshole, I wonder when someone (maybe Jason) will admit it was a mistake to become involved in a long term relationship he had no intention of staying in from the get go.

Who ya gonna shoot wit dat homie, you'd rather blast an original instead of a phony, true macaroni, you don't even know me, and why does your gun say n****z only?

    •  Collins DID say it was a mistake (5+ / 0-)

in so many words, considering that's the whole fucking reason he brought it up in the first place--to point out how his being closeted lead to mistakes that effected his and his fiancee's life. Jesus fucking Christ you just can't admit you made the same hasty rush to judgement that Kurtz did, can you?

You made the claim that Collins entered the relationship with "no intention" of sticking with it, which is also an erroneous assumption. Gay people enter these types of relationships precisely because they want them to last--they view them as a means of being "fixed." Just make the commitment and get used to it, and everything will be fine. Any person with a modicum of empathy would understand that mode of thinking, but hey, we've already established that ain't you.
