  •  My grandson's birthday was yesterday, (0+ / 0-)

still is his party as I type this. He's 23 now. His friends are here in my home, along with me and grandpa, his Mom our daughter, and his cousin who lives here too (our son died when grandson was two).

The crowd is mixed culture, some of each, of several. Son's son is gay and knows it (so do we all), his hoped for new boyfriend meeting us for the first time. We all sat around the table and sang a bad version of Happy Birthday, and we are all playing dice-dice. And trying to keep score. And being very loud, and loving each other a lot. They know where the pillows and blankets are. We'll sort out the parking situation tomorrow.

Some of us don't live in fear. Haven't lived in fear since we realized The Truth about humanity and our roles in the drama. So all the melodrama seems like... melodrama. Grandpa is gonna make you mow or shovel duck-bedding to the garden, grandma's probably going to make you empty the compost and spread that duck-bedding on the strawberries. Mom may cook dinner (or not), grandsons better gather firewood if they're planning a gathering... it's a life. We live it.

Life in the real world isn't about who you love. It's about how you structure the love to include everyone who matters. Really.
