I have no proof, but the ability of the NRA and the gun makers to beat this, seems only possible thru direct payments to the politians (or their family members).

There's really no other way to explain something 90% of the public wants.

The symbol for the Republican party shouldn't be an elephant -- it should be a unicorn.

      CBS polling (from npr.org):

"Currently, support for stricter gun control laws stands at 47 percent today, down from a high of 57 percent just after the shootings. Thirty-nine percent want those laws kept as they are, and another 11 percent want them made less strict.
"Partisans hold different views on gun control laws: 52 percent of Republicans want the laws kept as they are, while 66 percent of Democrats want stricter laws (down from 78 percent in February). Half of gun owners themselves want gun laws overall kept as they are, but a quarter call for stricter laws."

So there will be another mass shooting, and another, and another, and each time the NRA will clam up for a few days, and then send Wayne out to spew some nonsense, and they will unleash their brainwashed minions onto the airwaves and message boards and the gun control crowd will give up and go home and pray that their kids are not murdered at the movie theater or at school or in church.
