      don't believe in Purgatory.  And saying the Enlightenment caused the Holocaust is like saying the Civil War and Emancipation caused  Jim Crow.  Actually, fascism has much more in common with the ultramontane Catholic reaction to the Enlightenment in writers like de Maistre than it does with the Enlightenment itself.  Strange that the airhead subject of the diary didn't mentioned that the Nazis' anti-Semitism  got relatively little resistance from most  German Christian Churches and all too much enthusiastic cooperation from some.
