  •  Thinking is hard. People don't do it (6+ / 0-)

    automatically. Thinking is not the same as responding to prompts with stock phrases or emotional reactions.
    Some people are not sufficiently aware to know what thinking involves. They are instinct-driven. Often, their instincts lead them wrong. Then they become insecure. So, the instinct-driven rely on being told what to do (right) or not (wrong).

    Would you expect a color-blind person to consider the color red? No more should you expect a person who can't think to think.

    Socrates said "know thyself." That would not have been necessary, if it were automatic or universal. Jesus Christ said "they know not what they do."  Knowing is obviously not a universal talent.

    We organize governments to deliver services and prevent abuse.
