    I understand the idea of an intellectual exercise. Thank you for providing one, and it's a question I've wondered about myself.

    Emotionally, many people regard supply and demand, and willing buyer/wiling seller, as "natural" while laws are interference with nature. Add to that the unexamined misperception that "natural" is the same thing as "good", and you arrive at their conclusion that it's all right to go unarmed if you don't have enough money for someone to sell to you, but completely wrong to go unarmed because the government imposed a difficulty.

    Freedom isn't free. Patriots pay taxes.
