  •  I have seen the aftermath of the burns (6+ / 0-)

    in Apalachicola NF and St Marks NWR pretty regularly.  The burning in ANF is necessary to maintain the Red-Cockaded Woodpecker population, an endangered species.  This has the beneficial side effect of helping a lot of other pine flatwoods species.

    My original comment was more about forested areas right in and around Tallahassee not the well maintained public lands.
