    as i expected, Tim.

One of my aims is to convince believers that non-believers are not necessarily evil people who hate God.
I have a little story about an experience on the California Zephyr on the way west a few years ago.

I had been chatting with a nice, matronly woman in the waiting area prior to boarding and it only seemed natural for us to sit next to one another on the train. She was only going to Galesburg IL so I figured if nothing else it would be a good way to "save" the seat so that I could hog it later on in the trip as I was going on to Lincoln NE.

In any case, after several hours of chit-chat on topics of the day, even politics, where she was very open-minded and seemed to be probably an old-fashioned Republican, the topic of religion was broached when she mentioned that her husband was a Methodist minister. I'm not exactly sure what comment of hers may have opened the door for me to make my first out-loud admission to anyone (including myself) that I was actually an atheist. She was shocked!  Really. She said, "but you are so nice and such a pleasant and lovely lady."

I'm glad that I was her first atheist. She even suggested that perhaps I should think about making "the bargain," that I "decide" to believe in God/Jesus just in case I was wrong about his non-existence. That's the most common flaw in the thinking of many people who claim to be Christians. I know lots of folks whose belief goes no further than that but who would never admit to it.

Thanks for taking my mind off the Blackhawks game. They're down 3 to 1 and need me in the cheering section right now. I might even say a quick prayer on their behalf....

I'll check in later. I love this topic.
