    topic.  I heard someone say the other day and I think he's absolutely correct, that without a book of fiction - The Divine Comedy - the concept of the great Satan as a punitive red, scaly demon with a bifurcated tail and carrying a hayfork* would not exist.  And what about the lesser imps and demons?

    The bible is a lot more subtle vis a vis Satan than Dante would have him appear in our nightmares.  One could in my opinion reasonably deduce from the bible alone that "Satan" is actually an allegory for the baser nature of man himself.
