  •  All That Training Didn't Work Out For Him Did It? (8+ / 0-)

But it was very clear that his goal was suicide-by-cop, so that's a mixed bag.

Let me recap a previous comment -

Some people are still stuck on Michael Moores "Guns = Racism" trope. This was  also recently used by Thom Hartmann, which cites laws passed when the colonies were used for a Vietnam-style proxie war between France and England as proof of racism.  If someone wants to make the case that this is helpful, I'll be happy to ridicule them.

My point is that increasingly these mass shooters are people who did not previously own guns or who have slipped into the world of "mall ninja" paranoia.  The case for background checks could be made by carving out these people as distinct from most gun owners in a public relations campaign.  This is the reverse of the familiar strategy of trying to lump everyone together.  Show the dangerous potential gun buyers as being sweaty uncoordinated dorky virgins who spend all their time on the internet and playing video games, or tubby militia wannabees who end committing suicide-by-cop.

If we show the problem as being irresponsible nerd dipsticks, there would be more support from gunowners.  And we might even get a couple dangerous noobs to not buy guns.

    •  Plenty of Sheriffs support these things (13+ / 0-)

Here in Colorado a number of Sheriffs pledge to not enforce the new Colorado gun control laws when they go into effect.  Show them this video and they probably take the side of letting this guy have his AR-15 even though it would be their officers under fire for doing their jobs.

Unless they're shot at (and probably even then) they'll support the right of everyone no matter how stupid to be able to keep and bear arms.

      •  "Constitutional Sheriffs" Flirt With Cop Killers (6+ / 0-)

It's like they are trying to build alliances with the Sovereign Citizens, who are notorious cop killers.

with the citizens of the state. They trust and support us and we likewise do them. It's not like down in the city.

If you look at the very end of the video up above you see a bystander running in to help the wounded police before the bullets have even stopped flying.

The Sheriff's departments of this state are all rural, except for the 2 or 3 big cities. No one is shooting at them, we're all on the same side.

        •  Unless I'm mistaken, you're, like, on the Front (0+ / 0-)

Range, between Denver and Boulder. And you talk about "down in the city"? Dude, that's in the middle of the megalopolis, not anyplace out of the way. And if you look at plain population numbers, nearly no one in Colorado is any place out of the way.

Using County by County goevernance skews the results, of course, but, federal lands aside, Colorado nearly mirrors the demographics of the rest of the country. Meaning broadly left leaning. And why you're so far from that, and here, is something that seriously amazes me!

There can be no protection locally if we're content to ignore the fact that there are no controls globally.

    •  "Training" (0+ / 0-)

"Training" is just the code word used in place of the fantasy that so many gun nuts have of fighting the government. The gun nut in the video was just livin' the dream. Until he wasn't.
      Good riddance.

+++ The law is a weapon used to bludgeon us peasants into submission. It is not to be applied to the monied elite.
