    I don't agree the extra wages will add only $1.00 to the cost of  making the product.

    My understanding (my an inside source) is the cost difference, for say making a shirt, is much larger.

    In places like Bangladesh, the cost is 0.15  The cost in the US would be more like 3.00 each.  When you add margins, this would be a much larger increase at the retail level.

    The problem is the consumer.  They will not or can not afford the extra costs of producing locally.

    As a side note, China has now become expensive in terms of labour for the clothing industry.  This is why you are seeing products being made in places like Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
