    things are happening about on schedule. Looks as if we've just dodged the direct local bullet.

    Still, swallow sightings are very low so far this year, probably a function of changes along their migration routes to the south. Horned and Eared Grebes stuck around longer this spring, both leaving well after they'd put on their fancy breeding plumage. I have mixed feelings about this - seeing so many of them courting in their finery made me very happy, but in past years such sightings were a rare event.

     

    I came for the politics and stayed for the science.
