  •  Mad Men is much more than gardening (7+ / 0-)

though in the case of south central LA, for example, could be political. Mad Men is a zeitgeist drama, better written than anything you'll see in theaters or art houses. It deals with American culture and history. It's subtext is contemporary, every bit as relevant as whatever the Republican asshole du jour is saying.

Gardening and Mad Men.  I think it's an interesting capture of how we got to where we are culturally.  Advertising and messaging, like it or not is kind of what makes us who we are today to some degree.  Perhaps I can not speak for everyone but, I see the influences of the 50s to 60s mass culture and group think still alive today.  There's something powerful about groups of people sitting around trying to tap into the psyche of what appeals to the "average" consumer.

I don't so much celebrate the show as take it to heart and see this bleak, stark, reality of exploitation.  Most of the drama is sickening and sad, but it seems like something deeply human is captured.

My garden is just the place where I try to tame nature and mold it to my personal desires!  LOL!

diet and the environment? Topical. Gardening in terms of pretty flowers? Not so much. A beautiful garden is a pleasure, of course!
