    but in the final analysis I think I agree with you: a religious observance should not be made into a sociopolitical statement.  Unless -- and I stress this -- unless there is no other way to perform the religious observance.

    Where I have mixed feelings is: what if there's no other way to make the sociopolitical statement, and it's a statement that needs to be made?
