  •  You are pretty much where I was (7+ / 0-)

when I quit cigarettes 42 days ago. And I'm confident that I'll never smoke another cigarette because I love the freedom of not smoking!!

Here in Southern California, one neighbor is the only person I know who smokes. She got the last of my supply when I quit.

I love that I don't constantly plot and plan my next cigarette in social settings. I love that I could comfortably stay at a grandson's birthday party all afternoon at a public park, without sneaking off for a smoke in my car.

I do have my supply of nicotine gum and nicotine lozenges, and my e-cig to puff with my morning coffee. But the urge for a nicotine replacement gets more and more rare and I'll soon be free of those, too.

I also take bupropion, the generic for Wellbutrin which is an anti-depression drug that helps with smoking cessation. And my blood pressure medication, atenolol, helps relieve anxiety. I'll use all the non-smoking aids available.

In the past I started smoking again to deal with stress. Now I know that cigarettes add to stress instead of relieving stress. Life has included an overabundance of highly stressful circumstances in the past month. I won't add to that by smoking again.

Good luck to you in quitting those nasty things. ;)

    •  This is great, SoCalSal (7+ / 0-)

It's a good description of what it's like...we all think quitting itself will be so stressful, but you remind us of the little things you don't have to stress out over anymore (planning those regular escapes to smoke, all the logistical hoops we jump through just to keep the addiction going). Totally worth it; even if it's a little weird in the short-term, it's doable and soooo worth it.

So glad you're still going strong!
