I'm dumbfounded by the behavior - even if I did that, I would be ashamed to admit.

I really badgered one guy who had given products on Amazon nothing but 1 star reviews.

I've gone back and deleted my most negative reviews and rarely go lower than 4 stars because otherwise someone doing a background check might see my reviews and say "Whoa, this guy is a real dick."

who just want to vandalize, and going online to denigrate someone's products is a form of vandalism. And the good thing is that it is perfectly legal; nobody can do anything to you, and it is almost impossible to stop somebody. It's the perfect crime (for any kook who delights in causing injury to corporations). The thing is, it also hurts the consumer, who is being fed intentionally incorrect information. If the government attacked those people with drones I'd be fine with it. They're worse than some terrorists, if you think about it.

      •  I always read reviews (0+ / 0-)

of items carefully, and weigh them against each other; one person gave a flat-screen TV a one-star review because the set had a single off pixel, and it happened more than once...they were the only reviewer to mention that though so either they were exceptionally unlucky or exceptionally picky. (Now things like speaker quality I'd be far more likely to listen to -- a TV with bad speakers might not be such a good deal in the long run if I end up having to buy and hook up external speakers to get decent sound.)

Those sorts of folks are more in the "griefer" category than mentally ill -- folks who get a kick out of causing grief for other people.
