  •  I was really lucky (7+ / 0-)

Back in 1981-82, my public school health class did a fantastic job on sex ed. We covered anatomy and physiology, of course... but we also covered relationships, peer pressure, homosexuality, and masturbation. I thought everyone got this sort of stuff, until I went to college and learned nobody did.

Well, not quite nobody. In the mid-90s Mr. Brillig and I got asked if we'd be interested in teaching the sexuality education course. Sure! Off we went to to a weekend training, where... the exercises seemed familiar and the messages just like what I learned in school.

Next time I was back home, I went back to my old high school, where the health teacher was still teaching. I asked her if the course she taught us was based on the UU "About Your Sexuality" curriculum. She confirmed it :).

The much-updated and now lifespan (age-appropriate material for all ages, kindergarten thru several varieties of adult sessions) is known as Our Whole Lives, and K1 has taken the grades 7-9 course. Best thing ever.
