POTUS.  The surgery is a quick fix that only corrects a symptom. Even if he's had stomach stapling, having to retrain the body is difficult. Eating like a fit 160lb man may be a challenge and stopping after 1 adult-sized serving of meals when used to multiple servings is difficult habit to break. Fighting off cravings will be a struggle. Eating less than people around him will be difficult emotionally. There's likely some deep need behind surrounding himself with a massive girth.

Adding the exercise time & regime needed to maintain a decent body weight may be even harder. So keeping the weight down will be tough. It will take more than a few rounds of golf over the course of a week. The side-effects of some medications is weight gain. If he's had to be on them, finding substitutes might be necessary.

Having a self-image of being a rotund, savvy political leader who carries a lot of weight, has to change to being a slim one. Eating like a king versus eating like a skinny servant could be a hard change. If he has a month where he slips up, he could gain back dozens of pounds in that time. Weight that will take weeks of hard exercise to lose again.

    •  exactly; I've known folks who gain it back (4+ / 0-)

despite the stomach stapling.  Weight is a very complicated and complex thing physically and emotionally.  Any type of sustained weight loss demands the rooting out of all those issues or one just gains it back.  All the effort to get to a healthier weight is worth its 'weight in gold' so to speak.  I am not talking about getting skinny, but getting to a good healthy weight for a person.

However, it does show a spot of sanity that he is publically facing the risks of morbid obesity and working with that.  And that will get him the Weight Watchers vote!

But Christie is Christie... and what comes out of his big mouth is more of a problem to us than what goes in.

I have thought for a long time that he is the most dangerous R politician we have on the national stage.  For all his problems he is not a crackpot.  And that alone makes his candidacy appealing to that elusive creature: the independent, undecided voter.
