  •  Oh damn that cost and inconvenience (7+ / 0-)

I sold my old car privately, without even any recourse to emails, facebook or even notes posted on the laundromat bulletin board. Guy looking for a car to fix up for his kid to drive to school notices my old car while walking around, and makes me an offer. We took care of the transfer paperwork by driving to the DMV and filling out the forms.  Cost five bucks and two hours, counting both our time separately. The DMV isn't very close, and there was a line. It was Saturday, though, so it wasn't like either of us took off work to handle the matter.

Is this idiot arguing that for two private parties conducting a private sale can't take a few minutes out of their busy day to find a local gun store to run a background check and properly transfer the firearm. What kind of fee does he think the gun shop would charge for that small service? Hundreds of dollars? Thousands? Five?

If he's so damned concerned that the gun shop would gouge those innocent babes in the woods, then he can put some small dollar amount into the legislation to limit the fee (even though the free hand of the marketplace is supposed to take care of those little details.)
