although it may be inevitable, but I really don't like the idea of limiting ourselves to rich candidates.  What chance would that leave us of getting someone decent?

...of what I look for in an ideal candidate in a statewide race in Wisconsin:

      1) Can either self-fund or can raise enough money from donors to avoid getting outspent by a huge margin.
      2) Is a solid progressive but comes across as reasonable (running a moderate candidate, such as Tom Barrett, Ron Kind, Chris Abele, etc. is actually a negative in Wisconsin, as swing voters in Wisconsin tend to prefer hard-line liberals or hard-line conservatives who can sell themselves as reasonable)
      3) Has enough political sense to run a strong campaign.

I want the Dems to raise the necessary funds and national Dems should kick in to stop the Republican Rollercoaster Ride in the states.  That gerrymandering that Republicans did was brutal in Congress.

There already is class warfare in America. Unfortunately, the rich are winning.

        •  Self-funding ability is not a requirement... (1+ / 0-)

any means, in fact, if someone in Wisconsin has the political skill to run a grassroots campaign against Walker with limited resources and defeat him, I'd be all for that. Also, just because some rich Democrat can self-fund a campaign against Walker doesn't mean that he or she is the strongest candidate...after all, a self-funder has to run a campaign, and I've known self-funding candidates who are downright terrible at campaigning. There's also not that many rich people who are Democrats in the first place.

However, since there's probably nobody in Wisconsin who could get outspent by a massive margin and still defeat Walker, anyone who has the ability to raise money from outside donors in order to keep the fundraising close could be a credible challenger.

Finally, the Wisconsin and national Democratic establishment is downright horrible at running the Democratic Party (although DPW chairman Mike Tate appears to have gotten his head out of his rear end enough to propose the 72-county strategy for the 2014 Democratic campaigns in Wisconsin, even then, there's still no guarantee that Tate will still be chairman of the DPW come next month).

After all, he didn't spend nearly as much on his own re-election in 2012 as he customarily has.

Fake candidates nominated by the GOP for the recalls: 6 out of 7. Fake signatures on the recall petitions: 4 out of 1,860,283.
