It does appear to have been screwed up.
Whether or not the ambassador's life could have been save is an open question.
Either way, it would be silly for the GOP to ignore incompetence or wrongdoing.  If the shoe were on the other foot, Democrats would do the same -- and have.

that the Obama administration should get a gold star for anything.
I think they're handling the investigation appropriately and without obstruction, something we never saw in the Bush WH.

    •  No, it's not. (5+ / 0-)
Whether or not the ambassador's life could have been save is an open question.
Not at all.  The ambassador's life COULD have been saved had the House approved the administration's request for additional embassy security ahead of time when it would have done some good.

But after the House REFUSED to approve additional security, and the embassy was attacked without that additional security, there is no possible way the ambassador's life could have been saved.

The so-called Special Forces unit the Republicans are foaming at the mouth over were not outfitted for combat.  They carried less firepower than a newbie NRA member.  And even if they were, the ambassador was ALREADY DEAD BEFORE THE PLANE THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN ON COULD HAVE ARRIVED AT BENGHAZI.

There is no doubt.  There are no unanswered questions.  There is only unshoveled bullshit, and Darrell Issa is waiting to turn the first shovel.

Additional security might have done it.
        Might not.

Sure would have improved his chances.

        •  That's the difference in the words "could" and (0+ / 0-)

"would," but I concede that "might" would have been better.  Or could have been.  Maybe.  Also.

          •  No -- you're right. "Could" is a correct use. (1+ / 0-)

To me, it implies more certainty than I think is justifiable, but it ain't wrong.

in "O Brother Where Art Thou" where Pappy O'Daniels' two toadies are arguing over which is the best way to describe the whipping they're about to take in the upcoming election:

The reason he's pullin' our pants down.
Toady 1: Gonna paddle a little behind.
Toady 2: Ain't gonna paddle it - gonna kick it, real hard.
Toady 1: No, I believe he's gonna paddle it.
              Toady 2: I don't believe that's a proper characterization.
Toady 1: Well, that's how I'd characterize it.
Toady 2: I believe it's more of a kickin' sitcheayshun

The cigar in his mouth slowly sags to match the disbelief in his eyes as Pappy watches this exchange...

    •  There WAS a report, there were recommendations (0+ / 0-)

This new episode is a POLITICAL operation.

There HAVE BEEN hearings, and mistakes admitted.

Democrats make inquiries when the scandal is REAL: Abu Graib, the Attorney General Gonzalez, the wire-tapping, etc.

Yes, there were mistakes made in Benghazi.  But that is NOTHING comparable to what the Bush administration did.

This is a witch hunt, pure and simple.

Democrats don't do witch hunts. Granted, it's never necessary because when republicans are in control, there are plenty of REAL scandals to work with.

      Nixon: Watergate
      Reagan:Iran-Contra
      Bush Junior: long list

      Clinton: ???
      Obama: ???

Please can we not feed the meme of false equivalency ?
