  •  Well.... (8+ / 0-)

I remember the first time I was 'laid off'.
I was a 'necessary adjustment'.  Being a necessary adjustment didn't make me feel any better.  I was dumped.  Period.
In truth, I had been dumped because of some stupid error someone in middle management made about a product that they urged the owners of the company purchase.  The owners had to recoup financially from their purchase and that meant dumping some of their employees.
    Doesn't matter.

    •  Classic right-wing first-order thinking. (6+ / 0-)

      "We aren't making enough money!"

"Well ... we can reduce our workforce, and then the difference between our income and outlay will be higher, and we'll be making enough money!"

"Yes! It's genius! Those employees don't actually produce anything anyway! We're just employing them out of our charitable impulses!"

"Why not just fire all of the employees? Then we'll be rolling in it!"

They make the same mistake on the rare occasions that they can manage a second-order analysis. Thus under any and all circumstances, cutting taxes will lead to an increase in government revenue. Or cutting government payrolls will stimulate the economy and reduce unemployment. Just think about that!!!! They honestly believe that firing people will reduce unemployment!!!!

To put the torture behind us is, inevitably, to put it in front of us.

"y'know, our MBAs say too many of the salesmen are making too much money - let's fire those smart guys and just have the noobs wait on the customers, we'll save millions - what could go wrong????"

(two weeks later) "Hey, where did all the customers go???"

Customer : "nobody there knows anything anymore, they're all noobs - I know more than them, why should I shop there if I have to educate the help????"

        Two Months later:   CRASH!.

Circuit City CEO "Whaaa???" (pass the bonus parachute, please...)

And those same MBA geniuses probably got work elsewhere.
Destroying another bunch of companies and ruining lives.
Gives credence to the letters MBA....Me Before Anyone.
